For this flight You'll be pretty much on your own. It will be a short flight from Westchester (White Plains) New York runway 16 to Bridgeport Connecticut Sikorsky airport runway 6. The big difference is you will have some weather to deal
with. First we need to set our advanced weather settings. Under clouds, select 'add layer and set the base at 2000 feet and the tops at 3200. Next go to winds.. select a surface layer with a direction of 160
and a speed of 5 kts. The surface layer should be from sea level to about 700 feet. Then select add 'low level layer'. Set the winds to 16 and gusty from heading 160 with a turbulence setting of 2 notches.
Set this layer from 700 feet to 6000 feet. Next go to visabilty and we'll add some fog.. set visability to 1 mile. In reality these conditions wouldn't exist as we wouldn't expect much wind with this kind of
fog. But this is FS, we can do what we like..This will test your navigation and piloting skills. When you select Westchester from the go to airport menu it will probably put you on runway 34..
[FS98 users select RWY 16] Slew (Y) to the other end of the runway and set the plane up for takeoff on runway 16. You can save it as a situation. You'll set NAV2 to VOR BDR (Bridgeport) at 108.80
and NAV1 to ILS of 110.70 for Runway 6 at Sikorsky.. [FS98 users must climb to around 2000 feet to receive signal from the VOR] After takeoff at an altitude of about 500 feet, turn to a heading of 99.
You'll be hitting turbulence and losing visability quickly so you better watch your gauges and not the scenery. Climb to about 3800 feet, you'll be above the clouds with some turbulence.. At about 8 miles
from VOR BDR you should intercept the glide slope, you should be at about 2200 feet at this point.. Follow your gauges and see if you can put it on the runway. Remember, watch your gauges and not out the
window.. even when the airport comes into view, it can be disorienting.. Good luck.. |
